I just received my laptop. What do I need to know?

  • While in the school district and connected to the internet- log into your laptop .  You will need to click "other user" in the left-hand corner of your screen and type your username (first.last) and password.

  • Once you login you may need to reboot your laptop and log in again for any policies to apply

  • Open Chrome and sign in with your school district account.  Your chrome account is your email address.

  • Set up Google Drive Sync so that your files are available offline. https://goo.gl/eOg07V

  • Set up your fingerprint reader (optional): https://goo.gl/QzJo3P

  • Add any additional printers needed: https://goo.gl/mSDwa4

  • Set your default printer https://tinyurl.com/yyuxmf6v

  • Connect you SMARTBoard to bluetooth (East Elementary and middle school): https://goo.gl/MdDQam

  • Important things to note:
    • A clean laptop = a happy laptop - Employees are expected to keep their laptop clean.  Any dust, food, hair or other debris affect the performance of the laptop.
    • Please be careful with which cables you plug into which ports - you should never have to force a cable in. With these laptops ports can be very similar, but are actually different.
    • These laptops only have a HDMI display connection.  You will need a new cord to connect your laptop to your projector/display panel.  We will distribute these new cords with your laptop and add them to shared rooms over the summer.
    • The internet port is spring-hinged.  It can be a bit tricky to get unplugged and may take some determination to get the cable out.  Hopefully the port will become easier to use as time passes.
    • If your laptop is physically damaged, please report it immediately.  These laptops are leased and are expected to be returned in good condition - free of any cracks or other excessive wear. We always purchase accidental damage coverage on our laptops because accidents do happen, but the coverage is useless if issues are not reported.
